Read, Watch, Yawn

I finally got around to reading Eat Pray Love a little while ago. It definitely held my interest, but I can't say that I loved it. Mostly because I couldn't figure out what the author was so darn unhappy about, and I was consumed with envy that she had the time and resources to do what she did. Yeah, it didn't bring out the best in me. Judging from the trailer, the movie will be just as, for lack of a better word, annoying. But the scenery looks gorgeous, and so is Javier Bardem.

I felt the same way Heidi! I found the self-absorption to be obnoxious. I wonder if it's the overly-stressed mother in me that has a difficult time relating to the person unhappy despite copious amounts of free time?

So glad to read this! I've been meaning to read the book and haven't had the time. I read a snipet of a bad review of the movie, and thought maybe the reviewer got it wrong. Thanks for saving what little precious free time I have from being wasted!

Sad to say, I've never heard of this. But I trust your judgment!

I just started reading it and I'm only slightly annoyed so far. She certainly doesn't have to be responsible or accountable to anyone except herself and she has lots of friends and resources. Reminds me of this other memoir I heard on NPR, I think the Bag Lady Memoirs, about this woman who lost her money with Madoff but she was not a bag lady, just had a FEAR of being a bag lady, still had a house in the Hamptons etc. etc. LOL. I still get invites to Scripps Book Club. I miss it! We have to start a HI branch.
