Yuck!

I'm all about convenience, but I draw the line at hard-boiled eggs in a bag. My sweet H picked them up for me at Trader Joe's the other day because Snook eats hard-boiled eggs by the - bagful? Anyway, I tried one this morning and gag, spit, blech. It was disgusting. Kind of tasted like a rubber ball with a dry, gritty center. Maybe they're not meant to be eaten plain. I don't know, but I do know that despite the fact I haven't shown my family much in the kitchen as of yet, I CAN hard-boil a pretty mean egg, and will continue to take the extra 10 minutes to do so. As a side note, Snook liked the bagged egg. She's always been an odd duck.

Softer Than Soft

My mother-in-law introduced me to Barefoot Dreams this Christmas. All I can say is, "Aaaaah!"From outer wear . . . . . . to inner wear, they've got you covered. I'm most impressed by how this "bamboo chic" fabric seems to have its own internal thermostat. It doesn't make you too hot when you're inside or leave you too cold when you're outside. It's just right.

Scenes From Christmas

The Christmas weekend was filled with love, laughter and lots of good food. Couldn't ask for anything more!

Watching Paint Dry

This pastime goes from ho hum to aesthetically pleasing if you happen to have this contraption, or something like it, hanging from your kitchen counter. I think the H found ours at IKEA.

If You Give a Child a Camera

Early winter in Southern California has a cold, stark beauty all its own. Which my 3-year-old captured perfectly yesterday in these images. I've seen this idea around the blogosphere before, and am always amazed at how beautiful the world appears through the camera lens of a child. This is Snook's debut photo shoot. She is very proud.

Happy Holidays

We got our act together this year and had family photographs taken at Coronado Beach by a talented photography student that my friend Amy knows. (Thank you again, Amy!) Here are my favorite shots, a few of which made it into our Christmas card.Happy holidays to everyone and happy 2010!

More Good Eats

Last week's dinner menu included a real, honest-to-goodness, old-school-steak-house-style, table-side Caesar salad.Check the ingredients.Snook getting in on the raw-egg act.A splash of this and a stir of that. And voila!

Next up was lamb and winter vegetables. You know, I think I might take a turnip over a potato any day.Tis the season to eat!

Family Heirloom

The H made the prettiest and tastiest heirloom tomato salad the other night with homemade bleu cheese dressing. I'm hoping against hope that his passion for cooking runs in the family, as in S 'n' B start whipping up gourmet goodies for us any time now.

Double Take No. 12

These days, with S 'n' B on the cusp of turning 4 and 2, respectively, it feels like my babies are slip-sliding away. And here they actually are. Snook at around 20 months and Bubs at 15 months. At least I have the pictures to remember them by. Boo hoo hoo . . .
