Mad Housewife

Due to an unexpected employment setback at the tail end of last year (I got laid off), you can all say hello to the newest stay-at-home-mom on the block. At least for the time being. To commemorate my new status, one of my best girls, Justine, presented me with a bottle of Mad Housewife. It's been empty for a while now, which should tell you all a little something about how I've been coping with this new gig.

Ugh. Not since moving away from home to start college or becoming a mother have I felt so much like my life has turned completely upside down. One minute I was sitting in my office three days a week doing the lawyer thing, eating my husband's fabulous home-cooking, enjoying my four-day weekends with the kids, and feeling grateful that my nanny did most of the laundry, dishes, and basic household maintenance. The next minute, I'm home day after day, washing dish after dish, doing load after load of laundry, defusing tantrum after tantrum, changing diaper after diaper . . . you get the picture. But I'm not complaining. I'm just still trying to find my footing in a role that, to be completely honest, I've probably always wanted to play. And I get to play it now while my bundles are still little. So please stay tuned for more posts about:

1. kids and playdates galore;
2. money-saving tricks (if you have any, please pass them along);
3. and . . . COOKING!

You read that last one right. If you've spent any time in S 'n' B land, you've probably noticed that the H does all of the cooking around here. Not so anymore. In the past three weeks I've made chicken fajitas, lasagne, meatloaf, fish pie, pan-glazed pork chops, spinach and lentil soup, potato leek soup, several seafood dishes, and lots of other stuff I'm forgetting about. While there have been some ridiculous bloopers that I'll try to fill you in on later (as well as recipes), for the most part everything has been edible, and (even more amazingly) I've really enjoyed doing it. On the menu for tonight? Beef Wellington. Who is this person? Like I said - life turned completely upside down. Just hope I don't go mad.
