Must Be the Name

What is it about the name "Matilda" that seems to inspire the most darling children's clothing lines I think I've ever seen (wink, wink). For a perfect example, one need look no further than Matilda & Company (their website isn't up anymore, but you can still find their clothing on-line).

Matilda & Company specializes in re-cutting vintage and retro-reproduction materials, such as hand-embroidered kitchen towels, and combining them with new fabrics to create looks that are delightfully old-fashioned, while still looking quite hip and trend-worthy. Just look at these party dresses, apron dresses and separates!

There are no words to do this floral confection justice! This little sundress has "frolicking in a field of daffodils" written all over it. She could gather them in her apron.

How cute would this tank-top look . . .

. . . paired with these adorable, rosy lounge pants?

And how much would I have loved to attend this trunk show.

Next up, Matilda Jane. This company was started by a mother of two boys, surprisingly enough, who was encouraged by a friend to start making clothing. What a great friend! Just look at these wondrous creations!

I love this peasant top.

A most dreamy apron dress.

I actually fell in love with this little girl's braids. Hi Mom!

Hard to imagine a sweeter bucket hat

Oh, and this one's for the boys!

So it seems that if you're searching for inspiration to design sweeter than sweet children's clothing, you just need to come up with a name that embodies all that is sweet in life. More winking!
