So unless you've been living under that proverbial rock for the past few months, you've definitely gotten the message by now that this is going to be the worst flu season ever. Great. So I thought I'd do my part to prevent the spread of germs. Instead of saying, "Cover your mouth!" to the kiddos whenever they sneeze or cough, I got the idea from my college girlfriend, Amy, during last year's flu season to say instead, "Do the elephant!" Which is way more fun, and tons more effective. Here's a visual to help us all out. Salud!

My child came home from school the other day saying that they learned to cough and sneeze into their elbow with Germy Wormie, and I was totally taken aback. I always covered with my hands. But I went to the website and now I get it, hands touch, elbows don't!! Kids can touch 300 surfaces in 1/2 hour and they hate to wash their hands. This is a simple thing that can make a huge difference. Also, there is a DVD the kids love, and it teaches them in a fun way other necessary hygiene habits, as well as the elbow cough.
